Women Against Rape (WAR) is calling on authorities and institutions to strengthen support systems for women in politics and leadership, following the recent general elections in Antigua and Barbuda.

According to Antigua Observer, the organisation acknowledged that the election of women to public office represents meaningful progress, but stressed that more must be done to ensure women can participate safely and fully in political life.

WAR's appeal highlights ongoing concerns about the environment women face when they enter public service and positions of leadership. The organisation's statement signals that electoral gains, while welcome, are only one part of a broader effort needed to achieve genuine equality in political participation.

The group is urging that concrete measures be put in place to create safer, more inclusive spaces for women across all levels of governance and leadership.
