The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is advising the public that Toyota has issued a recall affecting 73,528 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles from the 2023 to 2025 model years due to a defect in the backup pedestrian warning sound system.

The affected vehicles may not emit a sufficiently loud warning sound when operating in reverse, a deficiency that violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 141, which establishes minimum sound requirements for hybrid and electric vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has assigned recall numbers 26TB08 and 26TA08 to the campaign.

Toyota dealerships will install a free software update to correct the pedestrian warning sound. Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification letters by late May 2026.

The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is reminding the public that under the Consumer Protection Act, consumers are not required to pay for any repairs related to a manufacturer's safety recall.
